The mountain world of Val Bregaglia, once a shortcut to the ``waters`` of St. Moritz, remains a land sequestered from the noise and restlessness of the modern world.Brushed by the breezes of Lombardy, the Bergell (as it is more commonly known throughout Switzerland) is a wild and romantic gorge of glaciers and waterfalls between towering granite mountains. Sweet-smelling fields of clover, wild flowers and groves of chestnut trees offer a pleasant contrast to the jagged peaks above.Fourteen miles long and a fairly easy hike from end to end, the valley is definitely Swiss, but the culture and pace are Italian. As you descend the 13 hairpin turns of the Maloja pass (5,955 feet), meandering toward Castasegna(2,287 feet) at the Italian border, you`ll be awestruck by the crags and pinnacles that make this a climber`s paradise.
