A village with customs and traditions that have been practised for centuries. Ardez is regarded as a prime example of a village where the language and way of life are typically Romansch. In terms of cultural preservation, the renovation work here has been exemplary. Many of the splendid houses with their facades covered in the paintings and "sgraffiti" typical of the Engadin are protected. Ardez is on a terrace above the Inn valley, at 1460 m.
