Bamberg. Oberer Leinritt

The shore path on the sandy side still bears the name today. In the past, the horses struggled to pull the barges upriver on lines. The paths along the river were called towpaths. That used to be the only way to go against the current. Farmers earned an extra income with it. The towing rope was attached to the ship's mast and ran diagonally across the river to the horse and cart. That didn't seem to have been that easy back then, because the river was sometimes quite shallow. Then the horses even had to wade through the river. Today we can no longer really imagine that.

Very nice shot of this half-timbered building and its visitor. Hard to believe that commercial traffic was possible on the Regnitz River. "V"
