This mushroom is best recognized by it's bright orange to reddish colour and minutely pimpled surface. The gills of the host are often reduced to blunt, chanterelle-like ridges, but the pimpled appearance caused by the numerous perithecia and crisper texture distinguish it. (Arora 1986) The host mushroom is visible in the broken portion of this mushroom.
