Abstract

This photo essay spans the more than sixteen months I spent in Iraq from 2004-2006. My goal was to take atypical war pictures; none of these photos are intended to be pro-war or anti-war.
All of these pictures were made with 35mm junk cameras; those normally thought worthless and found in junk stores. The only non-junk camera used was a Voightlander Bessa R with 15mm f/4.5 Heliar lens used for some extreme wide-angle situations, such as inside a Humvee. These cameras were used:
