I am having some difficulty finding accurate information on plumages for males, females and juveniles of the American Goldfinch.
The summer, or breeding, plumage of the adults is easy but the winter plumages are quite similar for all three.
I am calling this a juvenile based on it's recent appearance in the yard and even if the adults have begun to molt, they wouldn't be complete.
