John, I stumbled onto your gallery when I did a search for the melodious laughing thrush on the Big Island. We are here, house-sitting, which we've done several times. I'm so pleased that you caught much of the true beauty of the Big Island. I really loved your pictures.

Thanks for sharing your trips with us, its a lot of work. I enjoyed the Hawai shots, spent a week there in 1956, as a US soldier on my way to Japan and it reminded me of those days. Your 300mm does wonders. Peter Clark

John:
Thanks for stopping by some of my nature galleries. This afforded me the opportunity to return the favor, and to find so many incredible -- and diverse -- creatures in your galleries. Your opportunities for adventure travel are a source of envy for me.

For me, nothing topped the beautiful 88 butterflies, though. Who knew they could count and use Arabic numerals?
Guest 07-Jan-2007 05:47
While your shots tend to be nature and wildlife, mine are mostly my wild boys! How fun to take a peek into your travels and imagine myself there. Wonderful, impressive shots! Thanks for sharing.

Hello John,

John [and Melanie],
Thank you very much for your comments. A fill-in would have been very appropriate. Oftentimes I use a gold reflector (alas, I left it in the car). I would like to say that a good share of my images don't even come close to approaching your level of quality, even with your initial 950 camera images. You certainly have a knack for great focus and exposure. The scenery on your travels is breathtaking . . . all of the species shown on the bird and other pages are incredible. Your images make me want to visit Mexico's interior (hay que viajar mas, verdad?)

You seem to be able to find great images whether you are photographing a panorama or an extreme closeup. Cheers to you -- enjoy your life travels and your work! It's apparent you do what you love.

Hi John, welcome to PBase and thanks so much for your kind comments. My wife Sandy and I have been birding for 20 years and I've been more serious about photography for the last two. We're just starting to learn butterflies, dragonflies etc. Bought a macro lens last week so should be fun photographing the insects and flowers. Looking forward to seeing your work and pics from your travels. If you find yourself in NYC during migration and want to see a btblue, give me a holler. Lloyd
