Iraq War Protest Third Year Anniversery

Thousands of Minnesotans took to the streets this afternoon to protest the third anniversary third anniversary of the
U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. Several groups were represented in the march, ncluding the Anti-War Committee, Women Against Military Madness, Code Pink, Veterans for Peace and Youth Against War and Racism. The march began at Hennepin Ave and Lagoon at 1 pm. The street was blocked for roughly 2 hours as the crowd worked its way to the St Mary’s Basilica, a Catholic church. The persons dressed in white costumes are from the http://www.hobt.org/home.html Heart of the Beast Theater, a group that sponsors our annual May Day Parade.

Just prior to the main protest, a group of about 75 high school students from several schools demonstrated in front of a recruiting center at Lake and Lyndale. This protest was organized by Youth Against War and Racism (YAWR).

I think people like you out in the thick of things lets us all know we are not alone in our opinions of the war. I live in the South and think that the South should rise up and tell Bush what a horrible job he is doing. I didn't vote for him but even the people who did are ashamed to admit it now. Too bad, how sad for our Country that we elected this menace not once but twice. The war has got to end! Your pictures not only tell a story they are visually interesting. Amazing shots.

the red state hillbilly comment was pretty weak. Name calling always starts when logic ends. The fact that the "guest" used Clinton as an argument to strengthen his point speaks volumes.

Prevacidman, At least when Bill was in you could have your steak(s)and eat it too! Then you could actually afford one instead of charging one on credit like today. So worried were you of encrouching armaments and all during the Clinton administration, people like you stayed home, contemplating the civil liberties you could lose and the lies you could be told under Bush who makes another punk out of a Red state hillbilly like yourself.

Great images from the march...but isn't it ironic that they are waking through the streets without bombs, tanks, gas masks, and machine guns speaking english to each other. Nobody likes war...but I did enjoy my dinnner tonight at Outback because I didn't have to wonder if some guy named Akeem was going to wonder in with a bomb strapped to his chest in the name of Allah. Would "Hilly" or John Kerry offer me that same peace of mind?
