The garden world lost a giant when Dr August Kehr died on September 27, 2001. The Southeastern Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, of which he was a valued member for many years, and the more recent Vaseyi Chapter of the Azalea Society of America, have embarked on creating a garden in Augie's memory, featuring the azaleas, rhododendrons and magnolias he developed. The general site is the grounds of St John in the Wilderness church in Hendersonville, North Carolina where he attended many SE-ARS meetings.
This photo essay documents Augie, his plants, and this memorial garden: click an image to see more on that topic.
