Fender Emblems

As a teenager in the sixties, I loved the muscle car years. There is nothing like the sound of a working V8. I see there are cars today that are as fast or faster, but it's not the same; it's different. No multi-valved V6 or multi-cammed 4 sounds like a V8.

When I was a teenager, I was a street racer, I lost my license for too many speeding tickets; then I drove without a license. Crazy yes. Stupid, yes. I never hurt anyone, intentionally or accidentally, except maybe for some egos and pride.

Since creating this gallery fifteen or so years ago, the auto manufacturers have rediscovered that horsepower sells, to where you can again buy factory high performance cars, many of which exceed just about everything from the muscle car years. The more things change, the more things stay the same.

this is a great site. i am 23 and my wife and just bought our first classic. a 63 fairlane. it has the original 260 badges but had a 289 dropped in it. do you know where these badges can be made and purchased. thanks alot and great site

"There is nothing like the sound of a working V8" - You are absolutely right! I live in Germany, not in the USA, where cars always had to be economic, considering gas-mileage. But after my first visit to the USA as a seven year old boy back in 1965, I could not get the great look of American cars out of my head. And I had remarked, that they sounded different from European and German cars. Perhaps I would have forgotten about that in the following years, but since we have an installation of the US-Army right here in our town, I often watched the GIs driving out of the US-installation, when work was over. And I remember to have seen cars like a 1969 Pontiac GTO with a little tach on the hood or a soldier who "displayed" his Sting Ray to everybody who would like to see it. Besides You could see here in town huge station wagons with big tail gates opening in a totally different way from that we had in our cars. That was in the mid 1970s. Today I have a classic American car which is a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 which is of course not a muscle car, but it has got the undestroyable 292 Yblock V8. I own the car now for 9 years and it never let me down and I never had any problems with it. I just have to turn the keys to hear the V8 rumble and do the maintainance that it necessary for a car that age and have installed a set of chromed smoothie rims, wider exhaust pipes with glass packs and little dress up in the engine compartement. Since we don't have a real speed limit here in Germany You can go on the autobahn and kick the pedal to the metall. And the old mill is still running strong. Best regards from Germany Ludwig

Great site, thanks - here in Austalia we had some variations in our Ford products and Holdens sometimes had 327 & 350 Chev engines. As a kid it was a thrill to see the fender badge let alone see & hear the cars running! Mike

Hello all, awesome collection of vintage engine badges. For the Ford 428 badge, it isn't original, but I know some companies do make them custom, as it was mentioned in the talkback on that badge. Does anyone know where to find the company who makes them custom? I am nearly done with a resto-mod of a 63 TBird, and i have a built 410, and I wanted to use 410 badges in the same place as the Landau badge. Can anyone point me in the right direction? THANKS!!

am a big fan for american mucle cars.. sending u a big hello from my country KUWAIT i admire ur fotos all and ur intersting in fender bages..fantastic jop ..also am like u love 454 and have 2 4x4 truck 83 85 and i think and beleave nothing in the world compare with american mucle cars.. its NO 1 THANK YOU BYE

In 1976 when I was 15 I was a serious student of fender badges. It was a thrill to see a 454, 383, Z28, 440, 455, 426, etc. We even liked the lowly 283 or 307, it was still proudly displayed on the fender so it meant something. My favorite was always the Chevy SS series whether or not there was an accompanying 327, 350, 396 or 454 on it. I had three SS Novas, an SS Chevelle and today I have a new Trailblazer SS that happens to have a Corvette engine in it :) I used to love cruising to the street rod hangouts like Ja Fa Fa's. I'd pull the hood off my '55 Chevy and cruise around with that big chrome air cleaner advertising that there was something underneath waiting to be unleashed. after 25 years I still have her sitting in my garage waiting to be restored.

I love this stuff! I wish you had a .wav file for each badge to click on the sound of the car. I've seen every one but I still miss our 1967 FORD LTD 428. It was 3 vertical lines (Yellow, Orange & Red), with the numbers below. You've got a great website

I have to confess. I grew up near several factories in a small town in Indiana. My best friend and I would walk thru the parking lots at night with screwdriver, visegrips. etc and "liberate" car and truck badges. We would mount them on the back of my friends closet door and in his closet, so his parents wouldn't see them. Honestly we never broke into cars but we did get those cool badges!

Muscle cars are the greatest!! Nice gallery...each nameplate envisions the guttural sound of a mighty V-8 breathing power and acceleration that would press you right into the back of your seat. Keep on surfin' dude! After growing up in Buffalo, I used to live near Huntington Beach CA in the 60's. Had a '61 Chev Impala 4-dr hardtop with a SS 348. It tore out a Powerglide. Abe

Hello Karl , great gallery Iam also a car guy (had a 68 firebird with a 400 cubes , drum brakes all around and a factory tach on the hood) , Ive mellowed considerably and now drive an automatic nasssau blue 1998 corvette .
