The direction of the sunlight was not good for this picture!

The Visitor's Center for the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is to the top right of the picture, in a different canyon. The Canyon in front of us (leading to the top right of the picture) is called the Bright Angel Canyon. The Bright Angel Creek flows at its bottom, and it leads to the actual Grand Canyon and the Colorado river itself.
