A site of total destruction of a culvert from flooding

The Little Catoctin Creek used to flow under a culvert in this section of the canal a long time ago when it was still functional. The culvert got destroyed a few decades ago, taking with it the towpath beside the canal. The National Park service had built a little bridge over the breach in the trail many years ago, in the last century, even before I began running along the canal. This bridge was destroyed by another flood in 2018. They still have not built a replacement bridge. Today, you have to go down to the level of the creek to cross the creek.

In the background is the railroad bridge that has survived all of this.
