Hi Dimitri,
I looked hard at the available pocket cameras, the things that were important to me were quality, size, manual control, battery time, storage media to match my other cameras (not in that order) and the S60 had all the requirements.

The G5 was a little bit too big, the S500 had really bad purple fringing and not the control, the Sony range looked good but the media was wrong and funnily enough were TOO small to keep steady (shame but try a T1 - really hard not to get shake), so the S60 was the one I chose. Another factor was the wide angle of course, makes a big difference.

Results speak for themselves, it's a fine little camera with huge battery life, I use a 1 gig card (over 300 fine jpg one 1 card/1 battery charge). I am off to Photokina on friday & will be taking this instead of my Fuji S2 or D70! Jane took it to Rome for a few days & is very happy with the results.

So those are my thoughts, if you look on dpreview.com you will see the latest reviews, there is a new camera out every day so the S60 is already out of date, crazy :o)

Guess you might have different needs, there are smaller cameras, more megapixels, but this one works for us as a family, we do tend to take it with us when we wouldn't take a dslr - and to be honest it has taken some great shots.

Oh, one other thing common to the small cameras is they tend to have dynamic focussing which locks onto anythng except the subject you want! This is one of the reasons some manual control was important. You need to look out for things like that. Anyway, we are very happy with the S60 so far and probably won't use half the functions but it's nice to know it can perform if needed, hope this helps,
best regards, Julian

Hi Julian,

Thanks for visiting my gallery and such kind comments - it's so encouraging. I love your galleries. Its seems like we like to photograph the same area. I also love the names of some of your photos - it gave me a good chuckle! I'm hoping to go back to Dorset in November and to include a proper trip to Portland this time. Your photos are fantastic so keep up the good work as they are so inspiring. Over 1 million hits! That's a great achievement - I just got up to 10,000 so quite a bit to go but who knows.

Kind regards,

Katherine

Hi Julian
Excellent gallery! Well done.
I'm wondering of you would be kind enough to email your beach rock pic to me. I'm seriously considering purchasing the D70, but I find a lot of pics on pbase to be soft, unlike those taken with Cannon cameras which seem to be considerably sharper and more in focus.
I'd like to see your beach rock pic on my screen devoid of the pbase compression algorithm to check it's actual sharpness, if that is possible.
Cheers
Graham

Dear Nadia,
Thank you for your kind words, it is amazing that so many strange people can find so much in common through the internet. I have looked at many photographs of your beautiful country and who knows but one day I may visit (I am thinking of a photographic trip to Gabrovo on a donkey or bicycle or maybe both, no - that's no good, the donkey would fall off). There are only three Bulgarian artists on pbase at the moment and I would be interested to see your own photos, I feel sure they would be very inspiring and make me want to come over even more. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see and I will try to please.

Agree totally, and although it's necessarily voyeuristic don't you find other people's lives (via this medium) can be fascinating and occasionally inspiring. Oh, and not forgetting sometimes crazy & fun LOL! Keep on posting & thanks for dropping by :o) J
