Willow weevil (Cryptorhynchus lapathi)

Photographed in Gatineau Park. A medium sized weevil at about 6 or 7mm. You can see it resembles a bird dropping on the leaf, especially when viewed from above. A good disguise. According to Bug Guide, there is some discussion about whether this holarctic species is native or whether it was introduced into NA at some point.

What an interesting shell it has. It looks like it's broken open. A great camouflage and super capture. V.

Great capture on a leaf the same colouring - a face only another weevil could love.
