Hover fly (Spilomyia fusca)

Larose Forest. This fly is nectaring on Boneset. As you can see, you would have to look twice to make sure this isn't a Bald-faced Hornet.

Nice close-up! I'm pretty sure it was a Hover Fly 'mimic' that stung me on my Achilles last year! ;-)

I did think it was a hornet. Fantastic close-up! V

I would have to use my 500mm lens to know for sure that this was not a hornet :-)
Amazing details Christine!!!~V~

He looks so much like a hornet! I would run the other way if I saw him. I stepped in a yellowjacket's nest when I was five years old and I still haven't forgiven them! Great shot. V

It does look like a hornet. I've always liked the little "faces" hornets have so this fly is very cute to me too. V.

It does look like a hornet, but I'd never get this close to find out ;-). Well composed and captured image of this fly! V.
