I admire selectivity and restraint. You display these while also being a bold and edgy. Nice work.

Congratulations on your portfolios here, Duncan. They display a real touch
of individual artistic style and verve. I enjoy the 'lookability' of your work. Cheers, Colin

Looking at your galleries, I can only say that a compliment from you is a real treat.
Humbly.
Merci beaucoup
Richard

You are simply a great artist with a great technique and mostly with a profound sensibility.

The "conversations" gallery is wonderful. Some of the compositions are (typically) less than orthodox but highly effective. I have too many Favourites listed now to track all of them but I keep coming back to your work. I agree with pablo's comment about the pictures being pure heart and soul. They ooze both!

BTW, Im fascinated by the esthetics of your gallery, I need to learn your simplicity.

Hadn't had so much fun on PBase in a long while as I did this evening looking around Duncan's galleries. Cast a lot of votes and enjoyed myself a lot.

(I'll try not to mess this up - in case I don't make myself clear - it is meant as a HUGE compliment)

As a photographer, I feel as if I spend a lot of time trying to perfect my technique so as to mask my lack of an artistic sense and sensibility. When going through PBase I often find lots of photographers with immaculate (and enviable) technical skills, that can wow me for a several images and then leave me feeling empty because much of the imagary is beautiful shallow eye-candy. I live in the fear that no matter how much work I out into my photography, that at best, that is my destiny.

Looking through Duncan's work I couldn't help but think that he's purposelly playing with making a lot of his photos to "look" less technically savy than they really are. His shots are pure soul and heart, and this non-technical approach only adds to this effect. Unfortunately for many of the rest of us (photographers not viewers), this can neither be taught or learned.

Thanks for sharing

Hi Duncan..
I took some time to view and comment on your work..
You are one the most diverse I have seen..you go from simple and composed to spooky as hell..Man you are 'wierd' ;)

You take some of the most disturbing photos-man some of your photos just make me all queezy inside. You know what, you are too much, a real authentic style of photography and a gallery with your work (I mean a real display framed gallery) would be a sight to see...
Well done it getting your images to express so much feeling and so much story..very impressive. I don't know what vision youhave but it is unique and artistic is putting it lightly..as always Duncan thanks for visiting my site as often as you do..it means a lot..

Hi Duncan,
Thank you for commenting on my PAD image.
I took a look at several of your galleries and all I can say is 'WOW'. To me photography is still about capturing an image of 'something' that catches my fancy. To you, clearly, photography is much more than that .. it is a vehicle for expressing your thoughs, emotions and feelings... an art form. I have a lot to learn.

take care
PS. Love the Douglas Adams quotes.

You say: "This is my life as I see it." Well: all _I_ can say is that I wish I had _your_ eyes! You see things in a unique and enticing way that will have me coming back, continually, for more...! Thank you for sharing....

Duncan, thank you for your comments left on my Pbase site. I've been browsing yours, and I just love your work. It is very unconventional. You have a way of disregarding all the "rules" to great affect, and I find that very inspirational. You are a true
artist,

Lance

I enjoyed a brief glance through your galleries. I am especially attracted to your portrait work. Will have to come back when I have more time. You have a gift for capturing spontaneous expressions and moments. Thank you for your kind comment at my gallery.

Thanks for your visit to my gallery and for your gentle comments. I'll keep looking forward to your works, which call for a longstanding view, as there is something "hidden" inside them, much more than the "graphic window".

Best wishes.

You have a great eye Duncan. Your portraiture is done with a daring attitude, and with great effect. Your Places gallery is awesome. Very abstract with great tones, great composition and a genuine street feel. Keep it up, and thanks for looking at my work.
Guest 19-Sep-2005 16:40
Duncan,
Thanks for the comment. I like your "out of the box" style of photography. It made me think about my approach and the way I look at the world. A good photo will evoke emotion. Like a memory which is not always in focus; some photos are better unfocused if that is your intent. They bring me to another time or place.
Looking forward to seeing more.
All the best,
Rick

Duncan,
I looked through your galleries and found that you do not capture reality in most cases, but an impression of it. Every your pictures include a part of you, your look, your sense of what you see. It could be probably called as impressionist photo art, but I am not here to put label, I want to compliment the style, you developed, your emotional and artistic photography.
Best wishes,
Galina
