Today I heard a worrying story about trying to become a teacher via the post-graduate route. Apparently last year’s intake of post grads didn’t exactly meet with fabulous success. In fact, if the story I heard is true, half (yes, one in every two) dropped out before the end of the course because of the pressure of the workload. Apparently they fell behind with their paperwork and never managed to catch up so they fell off the edge of the course.
It’s not possible to work out whether or not this story is true from anything I’ve seen published so I think that tomorrow I will grasp the nettle and ask the question in our tutorial. That’s the only way I can cope with a statistic so scary – look it in the eye. It’s terrifying to think I may have found a pearl in my world and then it turns out it could be a great big, ugly old cuckoo pearl growing too big for its host and pushing goodness aside.
