This year, for the first time ever, we’ve watched a reality TV competition – we’ve never see x-factor, I’m a celebrity, Strictly etc etc but for the last however many weeks, we’ve been glued to the Great British Bake Off. Is it our age? Are we finally succumbing to the draw of the sofa and carpet slippers rather than grimy night clubs and gigs? (Er, actually the opportunity for either of those last suggestions is limited these days for two reasons – we can’t afford to go to gigs any more and they are few and far between in these parts.)
Whatever the reason, we’ve loved every moment and last night when we watched the final I found myself unable to breathe properly as they came to the end of their time for their showstopper. We’ve also watched “extra slice” and “masterclass” religiously. Oh boy – it’s been such a joy and incredibly emotional, I, like a huge number of others I suspect, actually cried when Martha got voted off and when Nancy was announced winner.
Even DM has been motivated by it – he’s made pastry twice in the last few weeks and has expressed an interest in making several of the recipes featured in the show. I LOVE that.
