We got up late this morning and so were still in bed when Saturday Live came on the radio. It enflamed DM because they were talking about lost DIY skills and then interviewed a woman who had “made” bookcases and cupboards etc. as part of the show. Later in the conversation it transpired that her definition of “made” was assembling flat packs from Ikea. We both agree that assembling flat-packs doesn't count as DIY on any meaningful level.
As an aside, I wonder if that makes me an inventor because I once took apart a flat pack wardrobe into its component parts, then upcycled them into a built-in shelving unit to house my records and hi-fi?
Anyway, DM was furious that the definition of DIY had been downgraded so much that when he started work to take apart the door we bought in a reclaim yard recently so it could be fixed then re-glued, hopefully restoring it to its former glory, I decided that his efforts should be recorded for posterity.
Although this photo is mine in as much as I shot it and composed it, he has helped me to get the best out of it on the B&W conversion – I may as well make the most of the B&W challenge and learn a few new processing skills eh?
