Säntis is the highest mountain in northeastern Switzerland at a little under 9000 feet. It acts as a watershed of sorts by encouraging the clouds coming from the northwest to dump tremendous amounts of rain on the area. At one time, plans called for the construction of a railway all the way to the top.
