Markahuasi Stone Forest

Although was discovered in 1923 by archeologist Julio C. Tello, it wasn’t until 1954 that a complete 10 year on site mapping study was held by esoteric & dark science investigator Daniel Russo. The theory says that these huge figures were sculptured 10,000 year ago by the Masma culture using an unknown molding technique.

Marcahuasi is a 6.5 kilometers plain meseta, it’s altitude ranges from 3,850 to 4,200 meters above sea level, the distance from San Pedro de Casta is only 7 kilometers through a very steep mountain path, you can walk or ride a rented horse, depends on your physical condition.

Once arrived let your sight and imagination do the rest, you will see lots of human and animal figures, this sequence is only 60% of the total stone forest, it’s impossible to make it in one day, guided horse tours and camping facilities can be hired at San Pedro de Casta.

Best time to visit is after the rainy season, starting from April to November. December through March is the worst time to visit, rain and excessive fog almost all day long will frustrate you not seeing a thing. On this extremely rare occasion the apus were very pleased with Pbase, letting us do a fast 4 hours sunny horse shooting ride.
