Maasai giraffe |
Hippos having fun in the river |
We came across a troop of baboons playing in the grass |
These will be "July" in my butt-shot calendar this year |
A topi, and some female waterbuck |
Has anyone ever seen a topi that isn't on a mound, I wonder? |
Why look - yes - there's one laying down! |
Defasa waterbuck. These guys look like they should be in a colder climate |
A pair of crowned cranes. They actually don't come any other way.... |
Off to our left we could see a herd of topis standing guard in the alert stage |
Off to our right, we saw the reason |
This lioness seemed to be just out on a stroll though. She really should have been looking for dinner to fatten herself up. |
She crossed in front of us while the topis warily watched her. She really did seem uninterested though. |
As she strolled past them, not even looking, the topis all turned to face the other way to watch her. |
Oh look! The hippos got out of the water in the meantime! |
Ooh, I think I see why.... |
At 10:15, we stopped beside a cheetah mom with her three 8 1/2 mo old cubs. For the full story on this, see separate gallery |
After spending the afternoon relaxing, we went on a short game drive that ended up with sundowners on the Mara River |
The sun was just beginning to set |
The Kichwa Tembo staff had a lovely campfire going with cocktails & snacks |
Clint (a fireman/paramedic) makes sure Daniel does the fire right.... |
All is well on the embankment of the Mara as the sun goes down |
Maasai morani strut their stuff at Bateleur during dinner |
We really enjoyed watching this ceremonial dance |
Clint and Tom join in the fun |
They even got me to join in! |
