Pacific Crest Trail , Then and Now

Just a look back at the Pacific Crest Trail over the years. I did get a chance to hike the PCT in it's ( and my) early years ( 1977) and these are just a few photos of the trail and people who have hiked some or part of the PCT or who are " Involved" with the PCT. Most my photos in my " Vintage gallery were shot with an old Ricoh SLR with a straight 50mm lens and Kodak 64 slide film. ( which was a hiker standard in the day) Enjoy !!! Mad Monte

hi montie it is great to see your pictures posted it would be great to hit a trail with you again my wife Elisa is enjoying hiking with me and we had a great time hiking the wonderland trail two summers ago and she felt so good about that so she joined jim sulivan jonathan barak and i up rainer see what you started i still laugh when i think about how you teased dad when we were coming to the top on our climb and you said we beter turn around see you around some time we live in grampa lundbergs house.singin steve

Is there anyone out there that is a "graduate" of 1978? Andy the Ornithologist? Jim Osteroot? Remember the great dinner at the Italian Restaurant south of Ashland? And Lunch the next day courtesy of Barry's Folks from Yuba City?

What an awesome documentary of your times hiking. I would love to live in your part of the country with all the mountains. This gallery is now one of my favorites, very well put together. You sure have met some fun people along the trail.

Your Pacific Crest Trail gallery is a treasure trove of memomories for the old and young hikers, for those that hiked it 40 years ago, or this year; the PCT is the grandest of all American long trails and this gallery is a grand tribute to it. V!

If anyone runs into an older couple, (can't remember their names, I think her name was skunky? or something?) on the PCT in April of 2006 that got a ride to Julian in a red dodge truck from some guys from Texas We would sure like to know how they are doing. Anyone can emailme at svnd6shvl@aol.com.

I guess I will show my age and tell you how exciting it was to see equipment that I used in the White Mts. of New Hampshire in the early 70s. Great pictures. I am envious of your earlier PCT hiking as I am just now planning a '07 PCT thru hike.

Thanks for sharing a bit of PCT history. The 1977 pics are incredible. Reminds me of my early trips through the Marbles and Trinity Alps. These pics don't make it any easier though as the excitement grows towards my April 22nd departure for my 06 thru attempt.

Awesome photos Monte! Terrific visual journal of your hike and a great accomplishment in completing the entire trail. I've been on quite a few sections of the PCH in CA and have often wondered what it would be like to do the whole thing. Thanks for sharing your experiences on the trail...I really enjoyed the gallery.
