Setanta

etanta
Another of the new murals being painted in Dundalk as part of the SEEK Contemporary Urban Art Festival.
This one, by Mister Copy, is of the boy Setanta, who earned his name Chu Chulainn or the Hound of Ulster after killing a dog belonging to the blacksmith and armourer Culainn. He then pledged to protect Culainn's fort and family.
The story of Chu Chulainn is part of the epic Tain Bo Chulaigne or the Cattle Raid of Cooley, one of the great Celtic legends

I read the Cattle Raid of Cooley long ago, and I always envisaged the hound as much fiercer than this gentle looking creature! It is a great read and nice to see a visualization of the famous tale. V

the famous story comes to life in such an accomplished art work...pity about the wolfhound though, as it looks a sympathetic creature..
