Mainly Birds and some Mammals! These 827 bird species were encountered in the San Francisco Bay Area, other California spots or seen on trips elsewhere in the world. In 2004,I started photographing birds in an introductory birding class to better identify what I was seeing. Now in my photos I am trying to capture their beauty, intelligence and behaviour as well. I hope all these different views of each type of bird helps particularly those who are just learning to speciate birds. My interest in mammals is currently increasing as well and over 90 species of them are shown in galleries entitled Wild Animals and Multiday Nature Safaris. Currently,I am using a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III or a EOS-1Dx camera bodies with a Canon 500 mm,f/4.0L USM IS prime or a Canon EF400mm,f/4.0 DO IS USM prime or a Canon 300mm f/2.8L USM IS prime lens sometimes with Canon EF 1.4x III extender and existing light or less frequently Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM IS II,EF,40mm f/4.0L Canon 24-105mm f/4.0L USM IS lens. I also often employ a Gitzo GT3530s tripod with a Mongoose M-3.5 head. I use Photoshop CS6 for editing,Bridge for raw conversion and Lightroom 4.1 for photostorage. Recently I am experimenting with both Hasellblad Lunar and Panasonic Lumex mirror-less cameras. The layout of my galleries is adapted from the American Birding Conservancy's book,All the Birds of North America. Identification of specific birds is aided by the Sibley guides especially in regard to seasonal, sexual and maturationally different appearances. My images should come up first in medium format, but you can shift to the large or original format for more detail.I also get useful criticism from and post some of my best pictures on Flickerhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/merigan/ Any and all comments are appreciated.
