Joan Ridler, My mother, Alison Dickinson was School Secretary and my grandmother , Millicent Dickinson was Matron at St Michaels in the 1940s- I think 1941/42 and worked for Sr Georgina. They lived at the school and my mother also taught secretarial skills. They both had some good memories of the school. My mother had a beautiful singing voice and also sang at school concerts. I have some photos of the school at that time!

My mother (Annie Hill), Aunt (May Hill) and another Aunt (Marjorie Tweedy) were all at St.Michaels in the early 1930s. Anyone remember them?

My mother, Margaret Jackson (Peggy) was at St Michaels in the late 30s and talked lovingly of the train journey up there, the views on clear nights, Sister Georgina. i think she was Head Girl in her last year. She loved being at school and I grew up hearing all the stories of her time there. I was the fifth generation to have been born in India but have vey few memories as we left from Karachi to New York on the first Amercian "Liberty" ship. Finella Woolsey

This garden is on the other side of Darjeeling from Rungneet, which faced Kinchenjunga, and was the home of Jack & Jill Henderson. Two schools also looked out on the Snows, St Mary's, a Convent school and Singamari, set up during the War for English children.

A delightful and excellent photo of a typical Darjeeling misty day. I was at St Michaels School here from 1933 to 1936. My father was a tea planter but was in Assam for most of his time in India. Took us three days to get from Assam to Darjeeling, train, river steamer and the famous Toy Train Alister.

An absolutely beautiful photo of Darjeeling which I know well. Is there any possibilty of getting permission to reproduce the photo on a tea planters website www.koi-hai.com This is a site for the people who went to India-now retired-and getting old!! There are many who have worked on Darjeeling plantations and this superb photo would evoke many memories. Thanks.
