A Filtered Medusa and the Myths

Philadelphia Art Museum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

MEDUSA: The sole mortal of the monstrous Gorgons,
slain by Perseus. The fact that the hero used a reflective shield
given him by Athena to avoid looking directly at Medusa
suggests that the Gorgon had the power of turning to stone
whoever looked upon her. But most versions of the myth
put it that she turned to stone whoever she looked upon.
This was not an issue for Perseus, since Medusa was asleep
when he chopped off her head.

The bronze sculpture of Medusa (sometimes spelled Medussa)
Photographed, at the Philadelphia Art Museum, in low light with a wide aperture f/1.6,
the post processing included putting this photo selectively through a wide variety of
photoshop filters including blur, gaussian blur, despeckling, photo filtering (color).
Additional work with the blur, healing, bezier curve, lasso and shadow highlight tool
were also used. Medusa, from Greek Mythology, did not like to be looked at. According
to the myth, Folks who looked at her and were looked back by her died in sheer agony.
In that light, using some photoshop filtering was certainly in order and appropriate.

Actually, if I may add... Perseus was looking in to reflection of Medusa in his mirror-like polished shield, therefore he survived while swinging his sword all around the place. You know, try to coordinate your motions while looking in the mirror and attempting to chop somebody's head off... The reason why I am so certain about this theory is the proof here right in front of me,-your image of Medusa... You were looking at Medusa through mirror in your DSRL, and that's why you're still with us... Think about if it were point and shoot camera...
