Don, I am so sorry to learn of this. I have been wondering about Missy and finally decided to check this site. My condolences to all. I will always remember out meeting in Portland and the many phone conversations over the years. She was a special lady and will be missed.

An update, The funeral will be at Loma Vista Cemetery in Fullerton at 701 E Bastanchury road, CA 92835 at 10:30 am on Monday the 27th of August. It will be at the first left turn from the main road into the cemetery just before the mausoleum. We do not yet have a date or place for the memorial, that update will follow as soon as it is planned. I would help to know how many intend to come so we can have enough chairs and shade structures. We will need an exact count for the memorial.

Hello,
I am Don, significant other of Missy for 35 years. I am sorry to have to bring this news. I will keep this pbase album open as long as possible and perhaps add as I go through her un published pictures.

Elda, (Missy) had a cancer operation in April and they only took the cancer out of her lung. The follow up cat scan showed cancer still there. Scheduled this operation for July 9 to remove top half of left lung. Have been in the hospital every day for 4 weeks with her, complication after complication. She passed Sunday Aug. 5, at noon.

Thank you all for your friendship with her.
Don

Gary and I went to the cemetery yesterday to finalize things. His daughter is going on a planned trip and will not be back for a couple of weeks. We are having her cremated so a delay in the burial is not a problem. This gives us more time to organize the memorial and let people that want to come know. Looks like the end of the month and just after that for the memorial. Will keep all updated for dates.
Don

I like you so much I named my latest dog after you because she has long black hair that reminded me of the way your hair used to be. I haven't had time to look at your photos here yet, Walt D. just told me today about this site. Would love to hear from you and find out if you really did let your hair go to its natural color like has been rumored. I do think of you often, and have missed you, I posted a lovely picture of you on my face book page in a lavender dress:)

Hi Missy, you so kindly invited me to visit your garden maybe ten or twelve years ago when I was just starting to garden. You gave me one of the beautiful begonias named for you which I kept and grew and passed on until about two years ago when it didn't survive a move. I'd love to be in touch again.

In 1997 I moved from L A to Minnesota. I sold off all my greenhouse staghorns at the yearly sale in Arcadia. I'm no longer a member of the society but I have brought with me several ferns. They do not do as well here as in So. Cal. As they are now 20+ years old (I started them from spores), the shield fronds are becoming smaller with each new growth. So here is my question... can I cut back the old dead shield fronds or do anything else to encourage larger growth of the new shield fronds? Thank you in advance for helping me preserve my fern friends.

Hello Missy, I stumbled upon your photos while trying to find images of Lordly Onernon. It took me awhile to realize you also are in so. Ca. I am in Long Beach so I knew the roses you grow would work for me as well. Absolutely enjoyed your photos. I cannot imagine having a lot large enough for 400 roses. Your shots are incredible. Thank you.

I would love to send you pictures of the Angelwing and Dragonwings that I have to help establish the actual name. I absolutely adore these plants and have some for as long as 8 years. Will send pictures tomorrow. Thanks so much!

Love your pics of begonias! I am the Horticultural Correspondent for the American Begonia Society and would like to use them in some publishing to promote begonias. I am also a hobby grower and middle school teacher, who sells here at my home in Tampa Bay,FL and occasionally online. If anyone is looking for begonias, I grow many varieties seldom seen all year. This is just on the side, as my job keeps me plenty busy. I am so glad to see begonias get promoted! Thank you. Greg

Miss, Where in the world did you find these fantastic ferns ??!! Do you have a contact for a seller ? Purpose for writing ~ First page of your photo gallery, item (picture number I think) is : P50300462.JPG ~ if this furn has GREEN Rhizomes, that spread out like the Rabbits Foot, it is probably a Polypodium formosanum. The foliage looks like it. I have been in love with this fern since the early 70's.I hope y ou are still on line. I would LOVE to talk to you. Reply if you can.

Hey Missy,
It was great to meet you this weekend at the garage sale. You have some amazing photographs on here. I especially like some of your Praying Mantis shots and the Insect and Spider gallery. Here is a link to some of my images: www.flickr.com/photos/marrowblack/ If you get a chance let me know what you think.

Thanks Missy. All your photos are stunning!. I especially like the treatment of the flowers on the black background.
Michelle 27-Nov-2009 17:54
Beautiful garden - Are you aware there has been an alert to gardeners that the praying mantis we are seeing today are cross breeds from a larger more agressive species and have actually become a danger in the garden - eating a huge amount of bees and now a threat to humming birds? Found one eating one of my favorite hummers and it broke my heart. No longer allow them in my yard.
Guest 02-Aug-2009 11:56
Beautiful gardens only fond memories of my boyhood. Thanks, Missy.

The Photograph is not alone Art…
it is Technique, it is Communication, it is Amusement, it is Discovery and the Pleasure to see and to execute.
All it implies a world to know that before the end item, she passes for the conception of the photographic machine with the mechanisms that command the time of exposition of the sensible layer, the illustrious representative objective of one without number of applications of the laws of the optics, such as the combination of convergent and divergent lenses in order to eliminate the some optic aberrations, the support of the sensible layer with all the application of chemistry, the system measurer of the illumination as converter of the luminous energy in electric energy, the treatment of impressed emulsions after, the revelation with its proper chemistry, the treatment of the image with the introduction of artistic techniques with the purpose to correct high lights or shades of form to get a harmonious image or then for the opposite to strengthen
“defects” of the photograph in order to obtain
special effects.
The Photograph has the precision of mathematics e
the “anarchy” of the artist.
At last a world discovered with still
much to discover.
This is before, today what it remains?
I know that still very, but without the enchantment of not knowing itself what it goes to leave, of not being able itself to correct in the hour, in the anxious wait of the results, a world of uncertainties…

Wondering if you can help me. I have had this huge bleed heart begonia (don't know what kind) but it is 4 feet tall, a family heirloom plant over 50 years old and recently upon moving from Kentucky to California or maybe from the wrong fertilizer it dropped all it's leaves. Now, though I see what looks like powery while mildew on some of the notches of the cains. What is wrong? You may email me back at josefkirchner @ yahoo. com

Thanks,
Josef

Today we planted 2 Cecile's and are hoping to get the Bower built in the next couple of weeks. Your garden has given us inspiration to cover our neighbor's HUGE covered "garage type structure" that sits right next to our property line. We hope the gift of roses will climb all over that structure, bringing us joy, good smells and a little hide away in amongst the greenery. Thank you for the directions!!!!

dear missy, i have had an angel wing for at least 4 years in its original pot. i moved it into a larger pot with new soil----and everything went to pot. all of the leaves went limp and pale, somewhat shriveled. the canes are about 3 ft long, twisted and supported by plastic sticks. i am not really a gardner, but i love my plant. any words of wisdom would be helpful. thank you, qui qui

Thank you for the comment, it is an inviting place to walk. This place is about 30 minutes from where I live and I drive up thru these little one lane dirt roads a lot during the fall shooting photos. At the end of this lane is a beautiful 200+ year old New England Cape style home with a wonderful view of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I love your gardens, what great shots you have pulled out of those beautiful places. I have a lot of flower and veggie gardens and have considered doing a gallery of my flower photos. Take care of those great gardens and enjoy that wonderful family you have. I'll be back to view the galleries again, especially the flower galleries, as the winters snows pile up here in NH. Best, Sherwood.

Hi all you flower lovers. I have been trying to find seed for asparagus diflexis for a very lon time. Western Garden book calls it Asp. crispus or Asp. scandens deflexus, "hanging basket". No matter what I call it, I can't find any seeds. I was thrilled to find this picture. Does any one know where to find the seeds? Thanks in advance.

I spotted a huge yellow & black spider in my garden, one I'd never seen before, so went looking for it on the Web, trying to identify it. Finally found the critter in your My Favorite Spiders gallery, so I'm writing to see if you know his name. By the way, I live in southern Oregon, and I'm wondering if with our warming climate, this species is migrating further north. A very striking creature and a beautiful photo of it.

Dear Missy,
Thank you for your kind words about my furbaby photos. I do love them all and enjoy trying to capture their sweet essence.
I enjoyed looking at your galleries....of your family, and the beautiful rose images, and your furbabies. The Spider shots were awesome!
Best to you and your family,
Peg

Hi Missy. Thanks for your kind comments about my gallery. If you ever make it to England, I would be glad to take you and your family along the walk at Hengistbury Head. I love your flower pictures. I'm currently shooting some spiders for a gallery - you have some lovely ones. Best regards. Roger

Thankyou for visiting my photos - I appreciate your comments(my first in this fine adventure. I adore your ROSES AND THE SPIDES WHO OWN THEM. I came close to losing my leg last year to a spider with absolutely no oral hygiene and instead of fearing them I now spend many nights shooting Orb Weavers. They will be showing up soon. LOve your gallery
