My Grandmother was Florence Kalupa who came over around 1915 or so. (I think it was after the war).
My Grandfater was Sebastian Mozdzen who also came over aroundthe same time.
I didn't realize mozdzen was such a "common" name.
My mother's first husband was Zigmond Mozdzen. She had lived in Wilno,Poland. During WWII her and her family were dispersed. The story is not clear, but she met and married Zigmond. The two children became my half brother and sister, as she later married in England to my father. She never talked much about her previous marriage, but I know my brother would like to know something about Zigmond.

Our family name in Poland was Mozdzen. It was changed coming through Ellis Island in 1910. My grandfather, Piotr Mozdzen, and grandmother, Rose, came from the village of Antonia (Antonja) in Eastern Poland, about 50km from Bialystok. My grandparents first settled in Wilburham, MA, and then moved to Three Rivers, MA, where my father was born as the first of their children born in the US. Many of our family that were still in Poland at the start of WWII were killed by the Russians (Katyn) and Germans (Dachau). The few left after WWII became involved with Solidarity and escaped to the US when things became too dangerous. My grandfather's brother was named Joesph and lived in Clinton, MA, after coming to the US with his brother. Some of his descendants live in So New Hampshire. I know there are many Mozdzens and Mozdens in the Chicago area. Do you know the background of your family? Do you know where in Poland they are from?
