I am helping a vet of this campaign put together a book of his island campaigns, from Roi to Saipan, Tinian and on to Iwo. He was a member of the 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division. Thank you for you information.

I lived on Kwajalein in the early 1960s. A group of young boys (I was 13) took a trip in 1963 to Roi-Namur to explore the island. The island was quite overgrown with plants and trees. I do not remember as many bunkers as you have photographed but I suspect many were hidden by the flora. I do remember being led into what was described as "an underground Japanese hospital" from World War II. Do you have any pictures of this leftover hospital or do any of the bunkers pictures reflect this structure? Thank you for your pictures.

Helsairizarry said: "Keep moving forward. I can see that you have a lot of potential." I say a lot of potential compared to what?! helsairizarry has no pics on pbase to compare or even back up this comment. I have looked at a lot of pictures on pbase and yours are some of the best both artistically and technically. Not sure who this person is rating you against but I sure would like to see some pictures to compare. Just sayin...
