Message from Tim O'Donnell
I would like to welcome all of you who have stopped buy to view my galleries. I appreciate your interest in my work and I am grateful for your comments and support.

As you peruse my galleries you will perhaps notice that my work falls somewhat outside of the range of traditional photography… there is a reason for this. I never set out to be a photographer, although I do have a good eye for it and do take some good photos. I have always had a keen interest in photography but my real passion is art in the traditional sense of drawing and painting. So, as you look through my galleries you will notice that a lot of my images have a painterly or drawn look or otherwise an illustrative look and there is an obvious heavy-handed use of computer programs such as Adobe PhotoShop, Corel’s painter, and others.

I first used the computer to assist me with some design work that I was doing. It worked well for that purpose and I became fascinated with the capabilities of computer and computer generated graphics. The first program that I bought was Painter. I started drawing with the mouse and than later with a graphic tablet and then I started to import scanned pictures from my collection of snapshots to manipulate and to test different creative processes that I had read about. I eventually got PhotoShop and a digital camera.

I have heard the argument, other places and here on Pbase, that for traditional photography one should not over do it with PhotoShop. Maybe just a little cropping or minor color correction or as some have suggested, that about the only tool you really need is the histogram tool. Well, to me that is like using an ocean linear to cross a puddle… PhotoShop is huge!

I have delighted in exploring PhotoShop and my work has been mostly experimental, however I have created a few looks that I like that I do with consistency.

I wish not to get impaled by the controversy of what is and what is not photography or how much one should push the pixels around. Hey! I’m just a guy having a lot of fun with a camera and a computer and if you like my work I’m happy.

Thanks for stopping buy. I welcome your comments, suggestions, and yes… your criticisms too, and if you deem this work to be worthy, I would appreciate your vote as well.

Best regards,

Tim O’Donnell
