Blue Ross's Geese in Tennessee

Mike Todd found an apparent blue morph Ross's Goose at Lauderdale Waterfowl Refuge in Lauderdale Co, TN. The bird was located in a large congregation of geese on Dec. 14, 2007. I photographed another bird there on Dec. 30 while getting a few more photos of the original bird. These birds are very difficult to get close to as they are in a closed area and most photos are taken at better than 200+ yards.

I relocated the original bird on December 23rd, over a week after Mike's discovery and took a few photos which I posted but there was discussion on the bird's size. In these first photos, I paid no attention to get comparative size shots and photos taken at extreme magnification can distort sizes of birds not on the same plane as the target bird. The new photos show the bird's small size in direct comparison to Snow Geese.

I returned on Dec. 30 and while looking for the first bird found another bird that appears to be the second blue Ross's and I also relocated Mike's bird. I've spent over 12 hours looking for and trying to get decent photos of these birds hiding among the Snows with Bald Eagles flushing the flocks time and time again....
