This Lesser Black-backed Gull is molting into breeding plumage, there was still some dark smudging on the bill, but the medium gray of the back, long wing extension, yellow eyes and legs tell the story. I can remember us finding the first, an immature on Big Sandy, while "chumming" from a boat years ago. Now they are everywhere and every age. That winter day, we also had a Franklin's Gull come to the popcorn and dog food and that also was long before they became more common in TN.
