Chaparral yucca

Mt. Wilson, CA

(Hesperoyucca whipplei)

For a brief spell when the flowers first bloom,
a yucca can look even more spectacular than when
it is fully developed. These bright red bracts
eventually dry out and fall off, as the flower
clusters get much larger.
