Bukidnon Airport (Maraymaray Airstrip) in Don Carlos, Bukidnon

This is the proposed Bukidnon Airport in Don Carlos, Bukidnon. It is currently an abandoned airstrip. Decades ago Philippine Airlines (PAL) used to operate here & the Cojuangco's were one of its well known users.

The photos in this gallery show the condition of Maraymaray Airstrip as of late February 2009.
Sugarcane is planted alongside the abandoned airstrip. Farther out are pineapple plantations owned by Del Monte & TADECO**.

Aug 6, 2013. CAAP says Maraymaray, Don Carlos is the final site for a domestic airport in Bukidnon.

Sep 1, 2012. MindaNews reports that the CAAP has recommended the dev't of the existing airstrip in Maraymaray into an int'l airport.

Mar 28, 2011. A Bukidnon news headline announced, "Bukidnon airport to be constructed in 2012 – Sen. Zubiri". The article says that Sen. Zubiri said, "the target is by 2012 the project’s airstrip will already be available for use by smaller planes." and "By 2014, . . . the airport could serve . . . planes plying routes like Cebu-Bukidnon and later Manila-Bukidnon."

Dec 1, 2010. Pres. AQUINO said, "I would be directing director general of NEDA to study the feasibility and placement of an airport more central in Mindanao so that distances to and from various areas will make more economic sense”.

April 2, 2008. A resolution passed on April 2, 2008 by the Bukidnon Provincial Board and addressed to the governor proposed the development into a domestic airport an unused airstrip in Barangay* Maraymaray, Municipality of Don Carlos.

Hi anonymous, much has been put into the study as to where Bukidnon's airport should be. Mindanews reports that the FINAL CHOICE for the site of the proposed Bukidnon airport is Maray-maray as per a representative of the aviation consulting firm contracted by the CAAP.

Per Mindanews in Aug 2013, "Philippine Japan Aviation & Airport Engineering Consultancy, Inc. (Phil.Jac), told (them) . . .that after applying the multi-criteria analysis (MCA), the planners found out that the site in Don Carlos is the best in terms of landing, takeoff, and terrain requirements.

The last meaningful news update on this planned airport by Mindanews more than two years ago states that during that time the "feasibility study stage" was expected to be done in August after which the CAAP was to be ready with "recommendations and fund sourcing".

That was 5 years. Now, will anybody give an update on that feasibility study if ever it was done at all? Of course, without FS no way can an airport project be realized, right?. Well, the people of Bukidnon must join together and give this thing one big push - if not a massive shove - if necessary! This proposed airport could be the catalyst for the economic transformation not only of Bukidnon but for the rest of the 'heart' of Mindanao as well! The future of our children and generations to come is at stake here. so let's - what else - push for it! For starters, why don't we form a group and create a Facebook Page named Taga Bukidnon Para sa Maray-maray Airport!

.....just rewinding memories how the proposal for revitalizing Bukidnon Airport.. to recall, the Mindanao Super Region Inter-agency Meeting did it with the strong representation of its Chairperson, identifying the project as priority for Mindanao. Yah, its true, it is a priority project to usher and showcase a unique model of development for Bukidnon which practically in-land. May be What would catalyze the fast-tracking of the project would be the immediate transfer of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) to where it should have established its office acording to the law, RA 9996, which create the office - that is MARAMAG.... We Bukidnon must strongly appeal for the immediate transfer of MinDA to Maramag. Mybe, we should also stgrongly urge our Bukidnon officilas and leaders to facilitate or help hatsen the transfer of MinDA to Maramag. Bukidnon will not just have the airport, the province will be benefitted with the rest of the conceived infrastructures that shall be put in place to transform Bukidnon to what it was thought of...

FYI;sometime at the end of the 3rd quarter last 2011,people fr the CAAP visited the airstrip at maraymaray for an occular inspection.asking the vm who accompanied them about wind directions and other infos about the said strip ie;technical discreptions and other data. they later promised to research pagasa re airdraft history of the sight for the last 10 years. Later on in mid november 2011,another set of personnel on a DOTC pick up came purposedly to undertake surveying onsight but the perimeter of the strip was still full of unharvested cane, they promised to return early this year to undertake the same when the harvest would have been done. per info,the initial appropriation is 50 M.this is enough for the 1st phase. Friends,lets cross our fingers and pray that this project will really push thru. The good congressman Joey Zubiri is doing his best that this project will really be done with the aim in mind that this will a big boost to our farmers who would be interested to shift to high value crops as this airstrips main purpose is for airtransporting of these products.

Dave, where did you hear your info from? At Google maps the old runway is about 5.5 kms in the 10 o'clock position from the Municipal Hall of Don Carlos, Bukidnon. You will have to look closely as the runway may appear just like any of the surrounding fields. The center of the runway appears under a small cloud.

Don Carlos gym is funded by the CDF of cong. migz zubiri, now a senator... the project is implemented by phases...lately LGU-don carlos nag-counterpart ug 1.5M for the initial wood tiling of the basketball court...the completion of wood tiling(Phase-14) amounting to 1M and funded by the senatorial fund of Sen. Zubiri will commence on mid March, the target date of completion will be before the Araw ng Don Carlos... The proposed maraymaray airport will cost 200M... Senatorial fund of Migz Zubiri will be utilized for the project if found feasible

This is somewhat impossible. Bukidnon is not really a tourist destination, it's so much more for agricultural output. How will the airport survive and will there be any flights going to Don Carlos? I think none.

it would be definitely better. but i doubt if it would be implemented soon. i think it would take about 20 years perhaps to finish this project. considering the government and the budget issues, it is possible however improbable to make this project a reality asap. --Coleen S.--

Impossible!!! It took the Local Government of Don Carlos to construct the Municipal Gym almost 8 years to complete.. That's only a gymnasium.. How long would think it would take to construct an Airport? Considering Maraymaray is also in the suburbs and the road to Maraymaray is not even to close standard.. So considering this, accessibility and Implementation, this maybe only be possible but not in our lifetime..
