Drastic fading of Canon Photo Plus Paper

Images made with the S9000 printer around Nov. 2003 and posted here around Oct. 2004. They were kept in a rear side of a room on a refrigerator, thus in a moderate light, not covered by glass or plastic.

We have noticed that after short time many images printed on the Canon's glossy "Photo Paper Plus" were not as vibrant as these which were printed on the much cheaper Canon Photo Matte paper. After a few months the images began to look extreme faded. Some of them were partly exposed to light and air, and partly covered by a magnetic frame. Recently I took off the frame and I realized the incredible extend of the fading.

Images printed on the cheaper Matte paper, or even on the thin Canon High Resolution Paper, which are not supposed to be very durable at all, look significantly better. We see some fading, but by far not so drastic like on the Photo Plus 4x6" glossy paper. Photo Paper Plus is the 2nd from the top paper in Canon's line of papers.

We contacted Canon and pointed to these images. Incredible: For over 3 weeks they refused to even take a look at them with the argument that fading might have been caused by numerous factors and thus its a waste of time to look at such images. And I have in my naivety assumed that they would like to rush the images to Canon Japan to investigate... What an alien concept...

You have been warned!! Canon ink and paper are quite expensive, and yet your investment might be of short endurance....
