Gallery Thirteen: Bringing Fresh Visions to Tired Clichés

Clichés are words and pictures that have lost their original power and meaning because they have been overused. As travel photographers, we often fall into comfortable patterns of making images of attractive subjects over and over again because they give us pleasure. There’s nothing wrong with making clichéd images as personal souvenirs – but if we want our travel photographs to stir the imaginations, intellects, and emotions of others, we must find fresh ways of interpreting such common subjects as sunsets, pets, kids, picturesque people, landscapes, flowers, buildings, and monuments.

This gallery is presented in "blog" style. A large thumbnail is displayed for each image, along with a detailed caption explaining how I intended to express my ideas. If you click on the large thumbnail, you can see it in its full size, as well as leave comments and read the comments of others.

Most of these images have been selected from my archive of digital travel articles posted at http://www.pnd1.smugmug.com/ .

I hope you will be able to participate in the dialogue. I welcome your comments, suggestions, ideas, and questions, and will be delighted to respond.
