Snooze, Wilmington, Vermont, 2010

The artist who created this bench used an incongruous concept, painting figures that seem to be dozing upon its slats. I made an image of this incongruous bench from across the street, adding context for its location (a jewelry store), as well as the hanging basket of small flowers that completes a trio of primary colors present here: red, yellow, and blue.

The history of bench-sitting? I never thought of that, Tim. This is Vermont, where life moves more slowly than elsewhere. The colors will always be fresh and vivid since this bench is part of a carefully planned presentation. This is, after all, a tourist town and this shop certainly caters to such people. I like how this image has stimulated your imagination, seeing the colors as faded, and the figures as "fading into the history of bench-sitting."

An interesting contemplation on the art of sitting on a porch chair. I rarely think about dozing in one - but rather relaxedly viewing the world. I also find it interesting that the painted pair are so vivid - I would find it more appropriate for them to be faded - fading into the history of bench sitting.
