An antique, 19th Century or earlier tsakli painting in mineral pigments and gold, depicting, within a gorgeous landscape of snow capped mountains, streams, rocky outcrops and bamboo grovesfloats a gold-embellished parasol (chattra) - the coolness of its shade protection from suffering, desire, obstacles, illnesses and harmful forces. The tip of this parasol is a golden jewel, its form descending through a 'pagoda roof' profile which is fringed and has a saffron silk skirt floating around it. Gold tipped tassels depend from it, and a celestial scarfflutters about its red shaft. A single line of text to the reverse. 9.5 x11.2cm.
