An antique, 19th Century or much earlier tsakli painting in mineral pigments depicting Padmasambhava, as GuruRinpoche, the Precious Teacher. He is dressed in his tiger skin edged religious gown and wears his characteristic red hat with the ear lappets turned up. On the front of the cap is the twin symbol of the sun and the moon, emphasizing his perfect comprehension. He sits in the position of meditation on his lotus throne, holding the dorje and skull-cup with the bhumpa filled with the Water of Life. He holds a khatvanga beneath his arm. This is a particularly fine and beautiful image, and it is somewhat of a miracle that it has survived, given that its surrounds have almost gone...9 x 12cm
