It is with great sadness I must tell you that my uncle Ralph died of cancer this morning. I can only hope that one day I can see the world in all it's wonder and beauty as he did with his photography. Ralph was a kind, gentle and good man and the world will be a poorer place without him. I will miss him dearly.

Guest, Clintwood is the county seat of Dickenson County, Virginia. Dickenson County borders Kentucky and is situated along the Virginia-Kentucky border between the Virginia counties of Wise and Buchanan.

Ralph, you are just super-talented. I've always loved your photographs, but now looking at so many of them this afternoon, I realize what a wonderful gift you have. You must come to see us at the beach. Lots of good photo ops here, too! We love and miss you and Pat. Come see us!

Ralph, I enjoyed your autumn in Dickenson Conty 07 gallery so much. You are what I call a "High Color" photographer. Surprisig to me how many posts (from otehrs) are not bright and clear pictures. Yours consistentlyl are. Do you mind sharing a little tech talk with me?

It would be fun to compare notes. Some of my recent Autumn in VA work is on my gallery, you can see it. The shots are in 2 versions, not processed and processed. The subject was colorful enough, but the point of posting them and asking people to look is to get feedback on the post-processing - which is still a new and uncertain art to me.

Anyway, I live in VA and love the state deeply, as you must too. Just prety enough to be beautiful, not so pretty as to draw tourists I say.

Hello Ralph.
Your photo's are beautiful! Thank you for sharing them with us. I grew up on Baker Ridge and really enjoyed seeing those pictures. Maybe you could post a few more? I love the Twin Pine farm, well actually I love the entire community. I can't tell you how many wonderful memories I have of Clintwood. I miss Virginia and this was a wonderful surprise. Bambi

I really enjoyed your Virginia Fall photos. As I studyed each one, I took notes of your camera settings and reached the conclusion that a few weeks ago I purchased the wrong lens for my Canon 300D. I purchased the EF 28-105mm f/3-4.5 USM. Your photos are like the ones I wish to shoot and from your work I see that I should maybe have purchased the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. Because of the 1.6 factor on the 300D/350D/20D etc. it appears that the EF 17-40mm f/4L isn't wide enough. Which lens did you use for this series of photos. Thanks again for being able to study your work. Howard

Hi Ralph:
The photo of your hometown is wonderful. I come from a small town in Oregon, Hood River, and, at one time, around seventy years ago, its hometown appeal would had warmed the coldest heart as yours does.

Hi Ralph,

Love your pictures. My father was from Lebenon,VA. He had a farm there. Your pictures bring back a lot of memories of that area.

I am building a website and need a beautiful picture of Virginia. I was wondering if you allow the use of your work on other sites? If you are interested, please let me know.

Regards,

Great work Ralph. I live here as you and love showing all my online friends your pics. It lets them know the wonderful world we live in. One request, I think it would be nice if in the landscapes that you could or would leave the place the picture was taken. Thanks again for letting others view your pics.

Hey Ralph I enjoy browsing your images! I really like Summer Pond and the humor of Oh Deer! Thanks for your post at my site. If you didn't see my reply, I thought I'd post it here also for you to see:

Thanks for the visit and nice words Ralph. I use the Canon D30 DSLR to shot RAW, convert with Bibble 2002 to Tiff and then finish the process in Photoshop CS. I usually tweak the levels, lower brightness 10, increase contrast 5 and increase saturation 10 for the landscapes and florals. Last thing I do is sharpen with the FocusMagic plugin or USM filter. For the painterly effect I use the simplifier (buzz) filter plugin from www.fo2pix.com.

Hi Ralph, You asked who took this picture http://www.pbase.com/image/26298570 because you saw it at two different pages. Well they are both mine as you can see it has the same name. It's a lemon picture for the Lemon Challenge for this week ;-)
Have a wonderful day,

Hey Ralph,

Enjoyed your galleries of Virginia. I Went to school at Staunton Military Academy, Staunton, Virginia a very long time ago, but remember the area's beauty well. Your pictures reflect that beauty. Keep up the good work.
