Great pics! I'm amazed how effectively you utilize your cam...to the hilt...! Can you substitute exposure, constant use and wild experimentation with a formal photography study?
perry 27-Jul-2006 13:11
I love your pictures, very colorfull but I can not see the text. May be you should change it to a brighter color. Just a suggestion, makes it a little easy for oldees to see.
Russel Ariola29-Jun-2006 16:11
Thanks adelina, flower festival is usually february to march but the parades are held 2nd or 3rd week. It all depends, this year they had some problems. You should catch it some time its something really different.
Adelina 29-Jun-2006 15:34
Wow nice pictures! I always want to see this kind of parade but always miss whenever I go visit. Last time I went to Baguio was May of 2004. When is the date for flower parade?

That jabbadababy pic is the best! She looks so wise beyond her years... err.. months, with that contemplative look on her face, and her arm holding onto the palanggana for support.

hella good!

(you should not have mentioned that... haha)

Thanks Anne. I myself never took any classes. Just alot of reading on the internet and I know one person who has been guiding me. My friend advised me to keep shooting shooting and have fun doing it, thats probably most important. If you want to get into the technical aspects of photography then email me I'll be more than happy to start you off. Russel_Ariola@yahoo.com

Hello, Russell. I, too, am a Baguio native who is now based in San Diego, California. I LOVE the pictures you took. I have a more than mild interest in photography but don't know how to start learning more about this art. Heck, I don't even know if I have the skills...but I'm willing to learn. Any suggestions for a beginner? Take classes perhaps? Your input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well I used my Canon 300d and an 85mm prime lens. Cameras are just a tool. If your passionate enough you can use a 50 year old camera and still take great pictures. Good luck to you bongeez
bongeez 05-Mar-2006 04:17
russel, i just want to know what camera you use to take the great pictures of panagbenga 2006. I'm in the hunt for a good camera. Tnx

Hi Russel,

I am also a native of Baguio and I am currently living in Northern Virginia (US) and I haven't seen my hometown in over 30 years. I really like the pics of yesterday (60's) and today. I remember the city as it was back in the 60's and early 70's. The current pics blew me away, the town has just boomed. I don't know if that's bad or good but like any vibrant city it has to grow.
FYI, I am related to the DeGuia's, Florendo's and Bugayong's who are still residents.
Looking forward to more pics.

Thanks,
Omie
Russel Ariola27-Feb-2006 12:31
Thanks Alan. I hope I wouldn't break as much cameras as you though :) this is definitely an expensive hobby. We are natives of this city and we share a fondness for it. I'm gladd you enjoyed it.
alan franz 27-Feb-2006 04:31
hey russel, took me sometime to look up fron the internet photos of the panagbenga 2006, only to find crap shots of it until i stumbled into your website.

man, may i say you have got the eyes in your lenses! im very passionate about photography (although this is not my professional field), i have broken so many cameras since i learned how to hold, point and shoot them, lol.

anyhoots, lovely pictures of the flower festival. it surely has brought me closer to home (baguio) once more.

last time i went to the philippines, i never had the chance to roam around the city. through your eyes i can see such difference it has evolved into - very welcoming into the future.

well done to you mate!

Great work, Russel! I'm a regular visitor to Baguio and into urban history. Very good phot-doc of the changes in the urban landscape, especially Session Road.

yep rubba... it's all about name recognition, i guess ?!? lolz
Darth Vader 31-Dec-2005 23:36
Rubba... I LOVE the gallery entitled "...shhh." I Force is strong with you, young Bodega. But you are not a Jedi yet. If you only knew the power of the L lens. Search your feelings. You KNOW it be true!
Princess-Lea 31-Dec-2005 03:12
Awesome pics rubbahumpy... love most of them except for the front photo captioned "...shhh" but overall very artistic. You've got the potential of being the next Tommy Hafalla. Would love to see more dimensional work though. Keep on working on your craft and embrace your talent !!!Best wishes!!! :)

Hi Russel,
Thanks for the nice comment on the Baguio Catherdral!! That was taken sometime ago with my Sony point and shoot...one of these days I'll go back there and reshoot with another camera, this time I'll make sure I have a tripod. The only thing I didn't like was having to put up with those barricades in front, they didn't have them before...(a long time ago)

bien

Ate Luring
Victor 09-Jun-2004 14:57
I like that, humps ahead pic you took, and the hydrant. so you actually putting that camera into use there, but here at NYC you take pix of pigeons and your trunk in your driveway.
Luis 08-Apr-2004 18:48
I have taught you well, my Padwan learner. Good photos, seems you have fun taking them and that's what counts, brotha!
