Latin name: Musophaga violacea (Isert, 1789).

The Violet Turaco is a resident breeder in the forests of tropical West Africa. It lays two eggs in a tree platform nest. These are unmistakable birds,
although often inconspicuous in the treetops. They are 45cm long, including a long tail. Their plumage is glossy violet except for the thick red bill,
yellow forehead and chestnut crown. In flight, Violet Turaco's crimson primary flight feathers contrast with the violet plumage.

*Paul Erdmann Isert (1756-1789) was a German botanist. He was the first scientist to identify the Violet Turaco, Musophaga violacea.
Isert was born in Brandenburg. He was appointed Chief Surgeon to the Danish settlements in West Africa, arriving there in 1783. He published
'Reise nach Guinea und den Caribäischen Inseln' in Columbia in 1788.
