Your photos and trail description to Sierra Point View in Yosemite brought back pleasant memories. Back in the 60s I would climb to Sierra Point on my way to Nevada Falls and Upper Yosemite Valley. Back then I would camp in Camp 4; now, in my 70s, I stay at the Ahwahnee. I also live in California and enjoy annual trips to Ojai, Big Sur and Yosemite among others. A somewhat unknown photo op is Highway 33 from Ojai north to the Santa Barbara Pastachio Co. There's an interesting book describing this section of 33 from Ojai to Cuyama.

Enjoyed your wide and deep photograph selection! Do you come from Canada by any chance? Do you have cousins Beverley, Heather, Greg & Susan? Aunt Irene is the last of her generation in our family. She is 94! Post a pic of a Canadian twenty dollar bill if you are my cousin, thanks! heather

Hi Gary....very impressed with your photography....you really get around..!! Found your site through dpreview .....cause I'm looking at getting the Panasonic FZ30...so thought I'd check out the forum...I've looked at them all lately....the Sony's...the Canon's...the Fugi's....and so far the Panasonic FZ30 I'm impressed with the most....I'm curious if you find all the features easy to use...and quick to get at.......haven't seen the fz50 in our stores... here in Canada yet....I've been using a digital for 7 years..Canon G1..and it's starting to feel like a dinosaur...although closeups I feel are good on it...but that's all.......and really ready to upgrade...and this FZ30 really looks like it would be fun to use...and soooooo much faster..!!...I have a album site at www.picturetrail.com ....username....gramakodak

Dear Gary,a sincere thank you for your comments on PSP and Elements. Had a go at Elements 2 (it came with an Epson printer) and didn't like the interface. Downloaded PSPX, and found it very similar to PhotoPaint, which I have used since 1997. As I am nearly seventy, not that keen on SOME new learning experiences. Now to spend some time looking at your pics, which will be a useful learning experience.

I love all your Yosemite galleries. We will be visiting this October for some fall colors. I have not been back there since 1992 and I'm sure El Capitan and the rest of the sceneries are just as breathtaking as before.

I am in awe. I just bought a Panasonic FZ20 and am in absolute learning mode. My frustrations turn to determinations when I see output like yours. Thank you.

Gary,

I've been watching your collection grow - I get more impressed as time goes on. I live in Morro Bay and I'm pretty sure that we have shot side-by-side, your shots blew mine out of the water. (I remember seeing your Olympus with the telephoto extenders hanging off the end of your lens :-))

I just HAD to compliment your photography - it's really something special.

Infrared advise needed
I have a new Canon A70 camera. The filter I am using is a Tiffin #87 filter. It is black, and sees only IR light.
The results I am getting are very Infrared, indeed, but the focus is crap. How is it your pics are so sharp? I know the G1 does great IR...but still.....
Could it be the filter I am using is too much for the camera? I am going to get a r72 filter also.
Any ideas on how to focus? What do you do?

Gary,
I relly love the infrared pics. I have a c2100 and was wondering where you bought both of the filters (#87 and 72). There is no place here in town that sells these filters and I really want to take some IR pics before the leaves fall off the trees. Also do you know of any other filters in the IR range will work (87c or 89)?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Once again GREAT PICS

Chris

Gary,
From Bakers Beach to Bakersfield, interesting trip . Lovely image of Golden Gate, not that their could be "bad" ones, I remain "attached" to the bridge, having walked on it opening day. Famoso not quite Bakersfield, but interesting historical link. With mom's family from Shasta, Dad's from Pomona, you happened to traverse the whole terrain. Huge collection, thanks for public access.

Hi Gary,
Love your pics of the Winternationals. I live near Joliet, IL, and have been to several national events there. I've been taking notes of your settings for the actions shots, as I hope to get some nice pics at the Fall Nationals,(gonna miss the spring event due to new baby on the way sometime in June). Did you use any filters? How about a tripod? I'm kinda new to digital photography. I'm still breaking in my new Sony DSC-S85.

Again, great job!

Hello there Gary, I saw a link to your site in rec.photo.digital and as I've just recently bought an Olympus C-2100, I thought I'd check out a few photos. I must say that I'm truly astounded at the quality of your pics. I'd be happy with just one shot half as good as any of yours. Excellent work and a pure joy.
