Great Black-backed Gull

Larus marinus

The Great Black-backed Gull is the largest gull in the world.
They harry other birds and steal their food and will even hunt other adult birds such as grebes and puffins.
Their populations were once severely threatened by the feather trade, but numbers have rebounded in the 20th century and they are now common on the East Coast.

Wow! This is a stunning sharp close up shot!! Yes, these large gulls are fierceless, I remember long ago on Plum Island, NH, coming across a couple of these gulls trying to kill a black duck. It was not a happy scene.
