Wave Valley Landscape

The Danxia Landform (Chinese: 丹霞地貌; pinyin: dānxiádìmào) refers to various landscapes found in Jingbian of the Shanxi Province. It consists of a red bed characterized by steep cliffs. It is a unique type of the petrographi c geomorphology discovered in China. Danxia Landform was formed from red-colored sandstones and conglomerates mainly during the Cretaceous age. It resembles the topography of the karst which forms in areas underlain by limestones. However, since the rocks that form Danxia are sandstones and conglomerates, they are often known as "quasi-karst" landforms.
