Virus in Orchids

Plants, leaves, and flowers of plants known or highly suspected of having virus.
CMV=Cymbidium Mosaic Virus, ORSV=Odontoglossum Ring Spot Virus. Note the common thread of tissue discoloration/collapse (necrosis) along the length of veins.

These are very helpful. However, you may want to change the abbreviation for Cymbidium Mosaic Virus to CyMV. CMV generally stands for Cucumber Mosaic Virus, and in some case, this virus can infect orchids.

Thank you for putting the photos in. At the moment we have suspect light green colouring on our leaves of our cymbidiums. I am wondering if this is a virus and seeing your pictures helps. Even though it doesn't help our situation, it is encouraging to know that someone has taken the time to warn other growers in particular we novices that have very little idea about much at all.

I am reminded of a conversation I had with an older grower in our area who tested a large group of plants - half with and half without symptoms. Interestingly, many of the plants with symptoms came back clean and many with no symptoms tested positive. I also wonder if some of the symptoms on the vegetative growth, such as spotting, are not the result of bacterial or fungal infections that result from a generally weakened condition of the plant.
