Derek,
Just mentioned you when communicating with Randy Smith re ARA. Do you by any chance still have any photos from racing back in the day? I'm working on publishing the untold story of ARA and would be happy to include any you had taken back then. I have over 100 quality photos, but always interested in seeing more from other perspectives.
Thnx!

hey--we met you and your friend looking for backlit aspens on the million dollar highway outside of ouray last week.
i am THRILLED to see the pictures on your site, especially the one for the NG book cover.
you make the air, the light, the rocks, the trees better with your enthusiasm and joy.

Derek: We met you in Monument Valley last week. You talked with my wife and you most generously gave her a copy of the June 2010 issue of Arizona Highways which featured one of your great photographs on the back cover. Thanks to you we watched the shadow of the west mitten climb the face of the east mitten. It was great. I looked up your website this morning and we have been enjoying your terrific work. During our trip we also visited Sedona, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and the Grand Canyon. We really enjoyed viewing your images of the above as well as the California Dreamin' series. I believe your website has just become an important adjunct to my greatly inferior home travel videos. Thanks for introducing us to your fine work.

The grandeur of the landscape has met a soul to match, one inspired with generosity to share the experience with those without the neans to get there. The best of the USA. Thanks from Oz.

I've traveled over 13 International Countries. I've seen half of the United States. These are the most beautiful photographs in which I've EVER beheld! I do hope that you publish all of these in a book. Your work is absolutely gorgeous. I have step-children that live in Cottonwood. We take them on their breaks to these areas. You've made me want to see more of AZ. Thanks for sharing your incredible. It's so kind of you.

Hello Derek,
Thank you for your comment in my November gallery. I have been familiar with your work for about year or more. We just moved from Prescott up to Olympia, WA. I would go over to Sedona and Oak Creek often to photograph. I actually got your name and found your website from the back of your F250 truck in Oak Creek canyon one day. Wonderful images in your gallery. Regards, Jim.

Mr. von Briesen,
I am not a photographer but am a hiking enthusiast. About 5 years ago my wife and I spent 3 days hiking the upper West Clear Creek. Now that I live in KY I deeply miss AZ and its nature. Seeking a nostalgia fix I did a Google search for WCC and found your photos. They are so stunningly beautiful that it brought me to tears. Words can't express the beauty that your camera captures. You truly have a gift.
Thank you.

Derek,
My partner in crime Ben(previous entry) forgot to express how absolutely fantastic these photos of the places he and I and all of our friends visit each weekend are. We try to capture our moments, but you capture the feeling we all get when we go there. I hope you understand when I replace some of my photos with yours when I send them to my family and friends. Thanks for capturing the images we see every weekend, but are so hard to describe.

Craig Gillette19-Dec-2004 08:08
Stumbled across one of the west fork snow shots - maybe on random shots? - and came to your galleries. I've got to echo the other comments, great work in a fabulous area. Saw a comment someplace recommending a visitor pass by the Sedona area. A glance here will change his mind. One of my father's old chums - and his wife retired to the Sedona area and lived in Wildhorse Mesa?? overlooking Courthouse Rock and we got a chance to be taken to a number of the less well known spots, small cliff dwellings, etc., and lucked into an April storm there several years back on a trip to the Grand Canyon, it's indeed a beautiful area in winter.
Guest 18-Dec-2004 19:07
Derek,

I love your gallery. You do a great job capturing what makes Sedona and Northern Arizona magical. Keep the photos coming! I check our gallery often. It keeps me motivated to fly to out to Arizona whenever I get the chance.
Bailey Zimmerman18-Dec-2004 14:12
Derek,
I spent 40 years in the deserts of Arizona. The first time I was in Jerome there were NO people only ghosts. Sedona, Oak Creek were the places that we went to escape the heat of the Valley. You have captured them beautifully!! Thank you for your terrific images.
NZ is wonderful......going back in May!!
Happy Holidaze!!

Hey Derek. Yeah, I was surprised to see the ascent of my Sedona gallery over the weekend. Don't people have any taste! :-) Checked out your Sedona in White gallery...way too cool! Loved the contrast between the white trees and red rocks. Must have been incredible walking up the West Fork. Your shutter finger's gotta be sore! I tossed a vote your way for that one. Take care.

Peter Rackham21-Nov-2004 02:22
Derek, thanks for the kind comments on my gallery. Yes, I live nearby and I was lucky to have a few days of good light to get these images. Late autumn and early winter here are often grey so I cherish these bright mornings.

Your work matches the spectacular scenery that you capture so well in your galleries. Wow! Arizona is such a paradise for photographers -- abstract shapes, subtle lighting, rich colours, etc. I know lots of Canadian "snowbirds" who choose AZ for FLA to spend the winter. One of these days I'd like to take a jaunt down to your wonderful part of the world. Good work, sir!
Tom Kenney16-Nov-2004 21:09
Hey, Ansel Von Briesen! Excellent work...ya dang hippie! So far I've only been able to load a few pics (maybe my connection?), but what I've seen is first class - great use of color, similar to Galen Rowell, Gary Valle, Vern Clevenger.

Hope I can make it out Sedona way in the spring. If so, I'll drop you a line and maybe we can ride!

See ya!
Spike 11-Nov-2004 21:58
Hi Derek....
Remember me? I am the radio guy from Chicago you met one afternoon in the middle of a stream outside of Sedona last year.
I have kept your webpage in my bookmark and I check it all the time. Your photos are awesome! I am so jealous that I don't have the landscape in Illinois to shoot. You have the eye, for sure.
I just bought the new Canon 20D. When I get out there again, I'll look you up and maybe you can teach me the finer points of this camera. Maybe you can show me a couple of secret spots to get some great shots too. You can blindfold me to get me there if you want! I am a fan of your stuff. Keep it up!

Derek, your photography is absolutely staggering. I met you and had a very brief conversation with on the morning of March 24, on Schnebly Hill Road. You spend your time in a landscape photographers paradise. The Sedona area is the most single photogenic area that I know off, and Cathedral Mountain is the most single photogenic spot in America.

Derek, your pictures are beautiful. I often think that if someone painted a picture of the sea and the sky as viewed from the Palisades cliffs, viewers would say it's pretty but unrealistic. That's how amazing it is (like your pictures). My son (age 13) will be thrilled by your pictures on the skateboard. Take care.
