Kauai, the Garden Isle

Kauai is the most northerly of the major islands in the Hawaiian island chain. It is also the most verdant because of the favorable climate, rich soil and abundant rainfall.

It's also home to one of the largest populations of Nene goose. Free ranging chickens and roosters are all over the place. Much of this is due to the lack of mongoose on the island.
Additionally, after hurricane Iniki significant numbers of dometic chickens were set free and are now contributing to the range-free chicken problem on Kauai.

I've never been to this part of the world, but after seeing your images, I must make it a point to visit. Is Kauai one of the lesser visited of the Hawaian islands?

Your photos are beautiful. I have been to Kauai twice and it is by far my favorite island. It truly is an island of paradise. Your photos are breathtaking and really show the beauty and splendor of this magnifjicent island.

We only have a couple more days on the island before we have to head back to the mainland and was happy to see you are from Hawaii and looking at your wonderful Kauai gallery. I have a few more places I want to go see now! Also need to get some shots of the Nene. Love the ones you have!

I grew up here back when in '63-'69. Then moved to Honolulu. What a shock of a difference between the two islands. I miss home and these pictures are simply beautiful and a reminder of a still wonderful place.

Hi. You have a wonderful collection of Hawaii images. Thanks for sharing and also for commenting on my Kauai photos. I would highly recommend the National Tropical Botanical Gardens next time you're there. It is a treat.
