My New Orleans Gallery

MANY OF THESE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN BEFORE AUGUST 29, 2005 WHEN HURRICANE KATRINA DESTROYED NEW ORLEANS AS I KNOW IT. Anything after Katrina is marked with the date. THANKFULLY, THE VIEUX CARRE IS STILL MOSTLY INTACT.
In 1718 a Canadian born Frenchman, Sieur de Bienville and the Scottish Minister of Finance for France, John Law chose a location for the French City and named it in honor of the new Regent of France, Duc d'Orleans. The two men used a triangle and T-square to lay out the present-day French Quarter (Vieux Carre' meaning Old Square). The constantly flooding Mississippi River did not prevent Bienville from building a permanent commercial and agricultural center for French Louisiana even though he built it on the highest ground in the area. In hopes of stopping the floodwaters, a small wooden levee was constructed. Many decades later earthen levees and concrete floodwalls were built to replace his wooden levee.

The City of New Orleans is a mixture of many cultures and ethnic backgrounds. It is a city of decadence and devoutness, a city of flesh and faith. Everyone knows about Bourbon Street and its penchant for debauchery and decadence. Therefore, I shall picture many things that the regular tourist does not often get to see. That is why it is called "my New Orleans" as seen through my camera. Under most photos is a "story", so scroll down and enjoy.
